Reunions

Busing Jali is in town! After having forgotten what Busing looked like, there was no way Abby was going to miss this. After a round of telephone calls, Abby, Augustine Kupang and Rajeli Dema were able to meet Busing in the Shell cafeteria. And yes, those pesky chickens and missing coconuts came up! Busing also remembered the early morning bell ringing to get everyone up and then rushing back to bed for those last few minutes of blissful slumber.

The reunion which took place in Kuching on Saturday, June 13, was a tea-time one. However, there was more talking than eating as Edith Phoa, Malihabi Sait Hamat, Priscilla Anne Joseph, Hjh Joairidah Hj. Seman, Raymond (Ramon) Taki, Abdul Rani, Hj Rambli Zainudin and Len Bubat came together to recall the good old days at St. Patrick's and Three Rivers School. Thanks to my sister Priscilla for standing in for me since she was familiar with all my friends. And it was fortunate that Jo could be in town for this particular reunion.
I understand our good friend Ramon will be sending more photos soon. Those will be posted when they are received.

The Mukah reunion was held at Kingwood Hotel on May 31, 2009 and present were Marcell Usup Pak, his brave wife Dayang Lasung and their three children, Anis Uchang, Hj. Julkip Seno, Hj. Ismail Mawi (Mendaie), Duwin Udih, Hjh Maimunah, Hjh Joairidah, Catherine Kiew, Rose Sutek and Mary Agnes Sutong.

This is the meeting in Usup's own words: "Some of them didn't even recognize each other let alone to recall their names. Catherine Kiew shook hands with me and called me Julkip. I gave her a second chance to recall and she still couldn't. Only after I laughed did she recognize me.

Julkip didn't recognize Anis and called him Johaness. Julkip and Rose Sutek couldn't remember each other's names. Julkip also couldn't recall Mary Agnes. Hjh Maimunah was the same so you can imagine how she struggled to recall each other's names."

Hj. Ismail had brought his laptop so everyone got to view the blog and laugh at the way we were.

On May 23, 2009, Henry Mohd Hazre, Rajeli Dema, Edith Phoa, Abidah Biha and Marcell Usup Pak met at Dynasty Hotel's Cafe Rosita in Miri for another mini-reunion. This time Henry and Usup were brave enough to bring their spouses and some children to be introduced into the circle of missing chickens and disappearing coconuts and secret crushes.

Rajeli: It was just the bicycle ... I swear it was nothing else. Usup: Ah ha, sure, we believe you.

Ok ... I admit ... I had a crush on Abby ... the bicycle was just an excuse. Now, can I eat my dinner?

Edith and Halimah ... the one brave enough to take on the chicken napper.

May 15, 2009, saw another set of reunions. Abby met with Marcell Usup Pak and Henry Mikui Mohd. Hazre in Miri. The night was filled with laughter and recollections of youthful antics at both Three Rivers School and St. Patrick's.

"Now, Henry, do you remember those chickens?" "Yes, they were yummy ..."

"There was Kassim, Munir, Morshidi, Hamzah, Busing ... and coconuts that did not go "thud" in the night"

  2. It was a wonderful feeling to be able to see each other and get reconnected after all those years. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me that I have made no initiative to find where my high school friends are until my Facebook encounter with Ron, then Priscilla and Evelyn. We are on the right track and we will continue the efforts.

  3. Evelyn, I like the caption you put on the pictures of Henry and Usup...hahaha and if only you can see, I was laughing all the way. I think the story then was about Ribut, Igau, Laat, the guys I did not have any recollection of. Perhaps Usup would remember what it was about, or was it about Kassims, Lisih and the cili padis then admiring the 'hot' gals!!

  4. Evelyn, I loved the caption you put especially that of Rajeli...hahaha. The laughters and giggles were also about some funny names and well you will experience that first hand when you are here next year, hopefully. Thanks.

  5. I am looking forward to it, so hopefully I will be able to make that trip. So far we have heard the boys' stories, I bet the girls have some funny ones too. Of course, we didn't steal chickens or shake coconuts out of the trees in the dead of night.

  6. It is great to see current pictures of friends who was a part of our formative years in school again. I only have a faint recollection of how Anis looked like when he was young and I think he was in my class at SPS. Edwin still look the same and wonder where and what they are doing now. Friends, keep the reunion going and one day perhaps we will be able to gather at least more than 20 former classmates and schoolmates.

  7. I simply love the caption you put on the picture of the Kuching reunion, Hj Rambli was indeed talking to me on the phone, who else...hahaha.

Busing stayed very much the same as he was when I last saw him as a teenager, don't you think?

It was a wonderful 'quiet reunion' even if it was just over teh tarik and some kuih because who cares about food when there are so many years to catch up with.

  8. Peter Toyad, I called you during the dinner, but where's the picshot of yours?
Was everybody's photo taken? Eventhough I can't join the reunion due to last minute change of venue, I still cherish of the photos taken during the yesteryears. But my image was missing? Yet I still have a photo of some of us at St. Patrick Sec. School. Anybody interested to have a copy? No extra charge applied. Trully, I n\missed you all. Maybe next year we all meet in Mukah? InsyaAllah. I love you all.
